Hi

Just wanted to quickly introduce myself to the group.

My names Robert McGovern, 28 born in Northern Ireland currently living in
England. I was working as a software engineer but am currently looking for
new work.

I feel I am being pulled toward starting a house church but I don't really
know anything about them. So I am currently scouring the web for information
about how they work and the format that they tend to take (if any). How you
go about getting anyone to go (I could start one but I'd likely only get
me and my wife and then probably not her...)

Hi, Rob. Welcome to the group!

Have you already paid a visit to the hc website? You can find it here:
http://www.homechurch.org/index.shtml

As for the gathering of others together for a home church, I think you've
hit on a problem that many hc groups face. Some folks are drawn to hc
because they really don't feel very comfortable in larger crowds. They
sometimes don't like to talk to strangers.

Lots of us like doing things simpler and more "natural" than they tend feel
in big church settings, as in many institutional fellowships. So we may end
up avoiding anything that "intrudes" on the lives and the faith of others
(as we see it).

I think that the answer to your question will be found in how comfortable
you feel discussing your faith with other people. One who talks about Jesus
to just about everyone will soon discover many other believers everywhere --
as well as many "unbelievers" who are willing to discover more about the
Lord Jesus and His people. But one who remains mostly silent about Christ
will seldom find himself in meaningful discussion about the Lord, about
fellowship and worship, and about the Christian life itself.

The more people you talk to about the things of God, the more likely you are
to have meaningful opportunities to invite folks over to the house.

That's just based own my own observations, of course. But I do know that as
we seek God's direction in anything, He will truly lead us into the path He
has for us. Be willing to be bold and to have some fun in talking with
others about the Lord Jesus (it is not a job or a chore, after all), and the
Lord Himself will direct your steps.

What has influenced you, so far, to look seriously at hc?

Keep us posted, please, as you take steps into home church, or whatever else
the Lord leads you to do.

God's best.

Jim
